When this card appears reversed, it indicates a need for new experiences and perspectives and even new input into the way you think about and function with your spirituality. Its okay (and in fact, its desirable and healthy) for your spiritual approaches and thoughts to change over time. Try new things. Talk to people who see things differently than you do. You will both benefit.

The Mage is about making higher and better use of all of one’s power. Spiritual, emotional, and otherwise. This is another card that often signifies new beginnings and great expectations. This is a very powerful, positive omen in a reading. This card reminds us that we have the power to make a difference, in our lives and in the greater world, if we simply make a point to try. You should note that this is not magic in the sense that you need to do spell-work or anything of that nature. It’s also not ‘magic’ like a stage illusionist performs, which is the somewhat superficial appearance of wondrous feats. This is actual transformation of the literal and figurative world in normal ways. You are not going to have it all handed to you on a plate, but you have the potential to have that plate and a lot of what’s on it if you do the magic yourself. The Mage is all about action. If you do nothing you’ll get nothing. If you don’t know what to do then just do something because anything is better than nothing. In other words if you don’t try you won’t get.

Portable Magic: Imagine that the four tarot cards of the altar are rugs each six feet long, bearing beautifully detailed images of the Aces. These rugs rest upon an elevated dais in the shape of a cross with equal arms that is twelve inches above the level of the floor. The astral dais of the triangle, which is not used in this exercise, is elevated nine inches above the floor, but the astral dais of the altar, twelve inches. Visualize yourself standing upon the significator rug in the centre of the dais, facing east with your arms spread wide so that your body forms a great cross. It may help you to visualize this if you sit in the west, so that you are physically facing east during the exercise.
Creative Tarot: Shuffle the cards and lay them out however you wish. If a card is upside down, you can decide if you want to read it that way or if you prefer to turn it around. Some tarot readers see an upside-down carda reversed cardas meaning the opposite of its given definition. Others think youve overcome the situation in the card, while others see it as a task that you need to complete in order to turn the card right side up. Still others think its a combination of all of these. You are free to interpret a reversed card any way you like, or disregard its reversed position and simply turn it back around.
