Family, Friends & Relationships:

The reversed Hierophant can indicate that others do not really understand where you are coming from or why you think a certain course of action is the right one. It is not always necessary that your nearest and dearest get it or agree, once you have made a solid decision.

Card Meanings: Unconventional Relationships, Vulnerability, Unorthodoxy, Challenging Tradition, Foolish Generosity, Unconventionality, Frailty, Unconventional Lifestyles, Reversed Roles, Impotence

The Hierophant is very much about ‘doing the right thing.’ You may be struggling with an issue and are unsure about what is ‘right’ for you to do. Know that the answers are within you. Remember that the ‘right’ thing is what is right for you also.

Book Details
Elements of the Psychic World: Loud and abusive language could be heard and then, in February, a black human-shaped form, about five feet nine inches tall with no face, materialized first to Janet in the kitchen and then to her mother-in-law Mary. According to family reports the haunting increased dramatically after that. Light fixtures fell from the ceiling. Jack levitated. Terrible rapping or scratching noises were heard. The children were tossed out of bed and down the stairs. Bedspreads were shredded and footsteps were heard in the attic. Even the neighbours were not spared, with many of them detecting a presence in their own homes.

Reversed Cards: If the Hierophant is the teacher and spiritual guide for our outer journey, then the Hermit is the guide to the inner one. The Hermit represents the singular journey, the journey of self. A leader with no followers. Yet he is more than willing to offer guidance and to console if and when he is asked. Once your answer has been given, you will be asked to leave. Solitude and seclusion are the Hermit’s sanctuary, and when either of these two elements is interrupted or interfered with, the Hermit becomes unbalanced and out of power. Although it is normal for the Hermit to interact and engage with others, it is not normal for him to stay in this state for an extended period of time. This is echoed in the number to which he vibrates to, the nine. The nine marks the end of a cycle or journey. It shows a point of expansion at a karmic soul level. It is the number to which we aspire so we can move on to the next level of awakening and enlightenment. The lamp in the Hermit’s hand can represent the spark of enlightenment, the karmic light of the awakened guru.

Tarot Triumphs: Of course, people may often want a reading when they are going through a crisis or have a particular worry. But the calmer they can be at the time of the reading, the better. For one thing, they may simply not listen properly to what you tell them. We’ve all been to the doctor and forgotten most of what we were told because we were preoccupied with our worries. Make your own judgment on this; if you feel someone is too upset to proceed, you can either try to calm the person with a short preamble—a light-hearted chat, some music, or a quick cup of coffee can often set the balance right—or ask them to come back later. Tarot is not a ‘rescue remedy,’ and it shouldn’t be treated as an emergency prop.

Reversed Cards: This is a really simple three-card spread. All you have to remember is that the first card is reversed deliberately.
