Reversed Cards: The Hanged Man in the protection aspect is an interesting point of meditation all by itself. I mean, what on earth could the Hanged Man be protecting you from? Is he concerned that perhaps you are not ready to make your way back to the throngs of your daily life? Or does he feel you have yet to fully understand the difference between escapism and enlightenment? Remember, the Hanged Man walks the path of the three, the number with no middle ground. This is the number of extremes, so trying to find your way with this number is always going to be difficult. Which may be why you have received this card in the protection aspect. You may need to consider what spiritual practices you are currently doing and be open and honest about how they are enhancing or serving your daily life. Are they acting as ways to keep you distracted or detached? Or are they truly making you feel more and more connected in a heart-centered way to the world around you? Part of the reason we walk a spiritual path is to feel more connection, more inner peace, and above all more love. If you are not feeling these growing in your life, then now is the time to evaluate your current practices.
Tarot Triumphs: We do not know if it was only the aristocracy who possessed the first Tarot packs, or whether these fine art cards produced for wealthy patrons were based on other images already in popular circulation. Cheaper woodblock prints of the four-suit playing card deck were certainly on sale earlier, in the late 1300s, and laws passed at the time show how popular these were, as the legislation attempted to halt the rise of card-playing mania among the lower classes.7 The main spread of Tarot decks to the general population almost certainly came later, in the early seventeenth century, when popular versions began to sell in the thousands. These were usually produced complete with the four suits in packs of seventy-eight cards. (The suits in Tarot have fourteen cards, not thirteen as most modern playing cards do.) By this time the printing press had become established, although most Tarot packs were produced as woodblock prints that were hand-colored. The painting was sometimes very crude, but nevertheless they were vigorous and lively. Even then, the production of playing cards was often governed by legal restrictions and taxation, so Tarot cards could not always be as widely distributed as their makers wished.

Reversed Cards: In order for the moon to be truly appreciated, it needs to be dark out. Under the blanket of darkness the shadows stretch and distort around the light the moon gives off. The nighttime landscape is very different from the daytime one. Here in the dark, everything looks different. How you respond to the darkness will determine how you respond to the Moon in the shadow aspect. Some people dont like the dark and make sure they are safely home behind locked doors, while others come alive once the sun goes down. Fear and anxiety are often heightened by the dark, and the way the shadows dance and sway in the shadow lands only adds to this. If you have drawn this card in the shadow aspect, you are experiencing a time of darkness, a time when you feel disconnected from the light. A time when the shadows prey on your fear and isolation and pull you down into the world you have no idea how to navigate through. This can be a time of both healing and liberation. This aspect of the Moon offers you a chance to walk through your fears of the dark and unknown. You dont have to overcome them or cure themjust walk through them. Even if you are on shaky legs, just keep putting one trembling foot in front of the other.
