Career, Work Or Retirement:

The reversed Emperor can indicate that you are not much in the mood for structured, formal work right now. However, obviously, you may not have a choice. Do the best you can to exhibit the structure and order that your job requires of you, but make sure to give yourself at least little mini-breaks to help yourself cope, if necessary.

Card Meanings: Rigidity, Excessively Controlling, Loss Of Business, Absentee Father, Abuse Of Power, Lack Of Control, Family Problems, Lack Of Ambition, Dependency, Stubbornness, Lack Of Discipline

The appearance of The Emperor shows us that domination of the mind over the heart is sometimes necessary even though it is not wanted. In fact he should be welcomed and that is what you must think about when he appears. When hard choices must be made it’s important to maintain your concentration and focus. The Emperor signals this but he also signals that now is a time you should find it easier to make hard choices. Enjoy the assertiveness and confidence that this self-control and focus brings. Forge ahead and do what you know is best. If you can master yourself then you should have little problem mastering most of the other obstacles that life throws at you.

Portable Magic: The best example of the way the triangle was used in ancient times to banish is the ancient abracadabra charm. The word ‘abracadabra’ is a real magic word, although it has been treated as a joke often in films, on television, and in books. It is a charm against fever and is always used in conjunction with a triangle, which may or may not surround the word, but which is always formed by the letters of the word itself. It was used by Serenus Sammonicus, physician to the Roman Emperor Caracalla (ruled 211217), who was said to have invented the charm, but it has its origin much earlier in ancient Mesopotamia, and may derive from the Chaldean phrase abracadabra, which translates to ‘perish like the word’ (Budge, Amubts and Talismans, 220).

Creative Tarot: So how did the deck come about? A. E. Waite was a mystic and a scholar with ties to both the Golden Dawn and the Freemasons. He had written extensively on many esoteric subjects, such as alchemy, mysticism, and the various mystery cults to which he belonged. Here Waite’s scholarly and mystical interests played an important role in the fate of the tarot.

Elements of the Psychic World: The state religion of Japan, Shinto is known as the Way of the Gods. The religion itself combines ancient nature worship with elements of Buddhism and Confucianism, notably those elements that suggested that the emperor was the divine leader of the nation. Until 1946 it was closely linked with the Japanese monarchy but in that year Emperor Hirohito renounced his status as a living god, effectively disestablishing Shinto from the position it had held since 1868.
