Well-Being, Physical Health Or Mental Health:
If you have not been feeling well when this card appears, first give some thought to whether some or all of your symptoms could be a result of stress. You are likely to have been pushing yourself too hard for far too long. However, if in doubt, give yourself the peace of mind of obtaining a thorough medical check-up. Even if money is an issue, there are health care services available in most communities in some form if you know where to look. Ask around.

When the Ten of Wands appears, you may feel as though you are carrying a very heavy burden. You may want to look hard at this and see if there are any ways that you might lighten your load either literally or figuratively. If you look carefully you may find that part of the burden you are carrying emotionally actually belongs to someone else. It will be important for you to pace yourself now. Don’t try to do too much.

Creative Tarot: The man in the Ten of Wands is carrying more than he should. By burdening himself with all of the wands at once, he is hindering his own progress. You get the sense that if he put down some of the wands and took multiple trips, it might take longer, but he would be more successful. Or if he carried the wands in a different arrangement, he could see where he was going. As it is, though, the burden has become overwhelming. If one is going to carry on, adjustments will have to be made.
Tarot Triumphs: Here we can see the difference between universally shared interpretations of a Tarot image and the ways in which our cultural heritage, historical knowledge, and specific affiliations will affect our viewpoint. Tarot’s specific historical context also plays a part in its interpretation, and as the chapter progresses, we will set more of that in place. In chapter five, too, we investigate specific attributions of the individual Tarot images, after which we will have a more layered appreciation of Tarot, with archetypal, historical, cultural, spiritual, and personal dimensions. This provides a sound basis from which to interpret the cards.

Reversed Cards: Like the mirror aspect, it can be argued that the Devil puts the shadow in the shadow aspect. He shines a light on all the things we tend not to want to claim or own about ourselves. But here in the shadow, everything is deliberate. Every action, thought, and feeling is mapped out like a strategic battle plan. In this aspect, the Devil gets his hands dirty with details. In other words, if you have gotten this card in the shadow aspect, there is a good chance you are using your poor choices as a way of manipulating someone or something. Now before you jump to your own defense, be really honest here. Are you in some way looking for a specific response to a current situation, idea, goal, or problem? Are you sure you are not using your inner Devil to shape the game in your favor? It may be hard to admit, but you may very well be holding people emotionally, mentally, or financially hostage. It may even be you. Creating pity and sympathy in others may seem harmless enough, but if it is done on purpose over an extended period of time, it starts to become abusive and toxic.
