Well-Being, Physical Health Or Mental Health:

The Seven of Cups reversed says that you have begun to realize what you can do to better support your health; you should have at least one or two very clear ideas. Trust them, (provided your health care providers agree) and stop thinking; the time for action is now.

The Seven of Cups is a card about choices. It often indicates confusion and can even also point to disorganization and too much going on.

Elements of the Psychic World: Talismans have been used throughout history to attract good fortune, success, health, virility, love and power and to attempt to control the forces of nature. In the Middle Ages talismans were holy objects and relics prized for their healing powers, and in the Renaissance alchemists sought the talisman of the philosopher’s stone. As opposed to the passive power of amulets – which protect and ward off evil – talismans are believed to be active in seeking out good luck and may even bestow magical powers on the person carrying, using or wearing one.

Creative Tarot: This is a card of many choices. And yet it is unclear if the cups contain what they seem to. Are the jewels real or fake? Is the snake poisonous or perhaps a symbol of the goddess, here to grant wisdom? The figure could be delusional, imagining things that are not really there. Or there could be so many options, but with uncertain outcomes, that he is in a state of indecision. The Seven of Cups requires a little clarity for delusion to be set aside and reason to take over.

Tarot Triumphs: As an example, I can cite the experience of a friend of mine. She was then in her sixties, and an experienced and sensitive Tarot reader. But she succumbed to the temptation of doing a reading for her daughter, who was undergoing some serious health problems at the time. So the person concerned (the daughter) had not asked for the reading and was not present at the time—two factors that can seriously undermine the basis of the divination. My friend was very worried about her daughter, and when Death came up prominently in the reading, she feared the worst. But, as we shall see, Death is very rarely death in Tarot; it more often signifies the end of the old and the beginning of the new. Indeed, the daughter did not die, and nothing dreadful happened, but her mother remained for some weeks in a state of fear and anxiety, which she could not dispel. Nor, of course, could she talk to her daughter about her fears. So she was in a worse situation than before, and the reading was no constructive help to her or her daughter at all. However strong the pull to turn to Tarot for guidance, the boundaries need to be observed both for our own sake and that of others. We are all likely to make mistakes in this way, but let us hope that we can learn from them.

Reversed Cards: Here in the mirror aspect, we get to look at our handiwork from a detached observer position. The mirror aspect allows us to take a step back—a pause, if you will—to see what is left standing and what has fallen by the wayside. In many respects, the Tower in the mirror position gives us a gap in the chaos. This gap removes judgment and expectation from the current situation and offers a place to just watch, observe, and expand your awareness. You could call it a teaching moment. It can be very easy to get caught up in the drama that the Tower inevitably brings with it, but if you have received this card in the mirror position, stop and take a breath. Now is not the time to act. Instead, it’s time to see what the world looks like after the movement of the Tower has swept through your life. For there is no doubt—things don’t look or feel the same anymore, and now is the time to get your bearings and find a new starting point.
