The Lord of Prudence is a generous card in many respects…..it covers periods of development and learning. It’s a strong card for inner development, promising expansion and exciting growth. But it does clearly warn that we need to pay special attention to what is going on around us, to rest and take care of ourselves, to ensure that we remain alert for important opportunities. The 8 of Pattern tells us the mysteries of proper management of energy – this is energy of all types – love, money, knowledge, health. It describes for us the art of putting in what we need in order to get out what we desire – balance and harmony both being watchwords.

So on a day ruled by the Lord of Prudence, we need to enjoy our lives, and to enrich them in as many ways as possible. We need to be thoughtful about how we expend energy, making every single move count. We also need to be aware of what is coming back to us from other people. Allow yourself to be alert for good opportunities and happy consequences. Let yourself learn from day to day events. And let life talk to you. This card can also show the need for meticulous attention. People who are painstaking are often dismissed as nit-pickers, but their extra effort ensures everything is as it should be. It’s a matter of caring – taking the time to check the little details. Now is not the time to be slipshod or casual. Look for errors, and tie up loose ends. The key to success is an extraordinary effort. Whatever your task, the Eight of Pattern tells you to give it your all in every way.

Elements of the Psychic World
Book Details
Elements of the Psychic World: A concept that is common in esoteric thought, particularly in connection with intuition and psychic development. In religion it is often thought of as the conscience or the spark of divinity within. The concept of the higher self is frequently linked with the theory of reincarnation and the belief that there is a part of us that has been alive before: personalities that are incarnated are facets of but one individual. The term ‘higher self or ‘higher consciousness’ refers to the concept that each of us has a part of ourselves that is thought to act as a bridge between the spiritual and the mental and physical dimensions of our awareness. Simply put, there is a part of us that is a reservoir of higher wisdom that can help guide us through our lives. This part of us is better able to see the bigger picture of the daily dramas we get tangled up in and can help bring us perspective. Acting with the guidance of our higher self can lead us in the direction of our greatest fulfilment.

Portable Magic: The second stage in the action of the charm, once an object has been located, is its acquisition. For this an appropriate card is the Eight of Pentacles, titled the Lord of Prudence. It signifies wise handling of money, and also the finding of hidden wealth or objects. In general, the suit of Pentacles is suitable for material acquisitions. This card presides over the first decanate of Virgo, ruled by the astrological planet the Sun. It is also linked with Mercury in Hod. The appearance of Mercury again in this second card is auspicious for the purpose of the charm. Virgo signified prudent management of resources.

Reversed Cards: Although many of the cards in the tarot can be seen as religious, the Ace of Cups in the Rider-Waite-Smith tradition has a very deep and profound connection to Mother Mary. The Holy Grail or Holy Chalice has been the fodder of myths and legends for well over a thousand years, so it should come as no surprise that artist Pamela Colman Smith was so drawn to her love for the Divine Mother when she painted the Ace of Cups card for the Rider-Waite-Smith deck. If we see the cup as part of the Holy Grail legend, then when this card shows up as blocked, perhaps it is showing you how you have decided not to drink from the overflowing well of possibility, abundance, and life. The Divine Mother teaches us about love, self-acceptance, compassion, and receptivity. The self is the vessel, and in this aspect the self is blocked.

Reversed Cards: Keep in mind that this book is a guide only. There are just as many ways to read a reversal as there are to read an upright card. What you have in your hands right now is a clear and concise road map of five of those ways. No more, no less—just five. So pick up your deck, flip it upside down, and let the topsy-turvy dance begin.
