Family, Friends & Relationships:
Just like the upright Eight of Pattern The reversed card points to a lot of good, old fashioned hard work in one or more areas of life being required of you. The amount of work involved is only somewhat lessened by the fact that it’s reversed. On the whole this card points to tasks that either should not be set aside or ones you will not be able to set aside. Note that you will benefit from this work as well – it’s not just for someone else’s convenience. This is the energy of making a list of things to do, prioritizing it, and then getting to work. When it’s over you’ll be very glad you did.

The Eight of Pattern can indicate a period of very hard work. This does not have to be a negative thing, but you must be prepared for it. Think about what it is that you are working for. This work can be personal or professional. Be prepared to ask for help if you need it.

Elements of the Psychic World: The family also heard what sounded like a body rolling down the stairs and saw chairs move around the room with no human hands to guide them.

Reversed Cards: Here in the Two of Pentacles, we see a joyous Jupiter returning to the hard-working sign of Capricorn, linking this card to the Wheel of Fortune. We also see other visual links to the Wheel of Fortune card with the infinite loop ribbon that seems to work as a pulley between the two pentacles. You could even say that the pentacles look like gears, ever turning in the hands of Jupiter. While the upright version of this card may actually show someone enjoying their new luck and talent, here in the retrograde aspect they are taking a break. Or, more to the point, they need to take a break. The game of gears needs to be put down for a while and serviced. Think about your car. You have to take it in every three to five thousand miles for an oil change, and you really should have it fully serviced around every ten to twelve thousand miles. Well, guess what? Your Two of Pentacles is due for a service. You cant possibly expect your equipment or yourself to function properly if you dont stop and get it all up to date.
Tarot Triumphs: If Tarot is indeed the product of a teaching system, then what better way of putting those higher ideas into circulation than through a game of cards? It pleases the poorer people, who want some fun, some gambling, and a set of colorful images with a touch of magic. It feeds the aspirations of the nobility, who might consider a gilded pageant of Triumphs in miniature to be a fashionable acquisition in their castles, displayed for after-dinner entertainment. Adding a set of twenty-two cards to the four suits of playing cards already in existence makes for a winning combination. It’s possible therefore that this was done deliberately, and that the idea caught on. And as this would be a means of putting old teachings in a new guise, there may be no immediately obvious antecedents. We are left with a collection of images, some of which can be referred to as emblems and motifs from different sources but which have their own sense of integrity and meaning. This is Tarot, which up until the present day retains its aura of mystery and enigma.

Creative Tarot: Many parts of its origins remain frustratingly obscure. For example, what does the name tarot mean? No one really knows, although there are many theories. It comes from the Italian word tarocco, which is the name of the card game that the deck was originally used to play. But the word seems to have no other meaning associated with it. (There is a type of blood orange called the tarocco, but its unlikely that the deck was developed as a way of thinking about citrus.) The tarocco cards were simply another version of playing cards, which were designed and played with all over the world, dating back to ninth-century China. They spread from there to Egypt, Persia, Turkey, and beyond. Each culture adapted the cards to create decks of their own and designed different games to match.
