Family, Friends & Relationships:
In general The reversed Ace of Athames indicates that you need to be careful about illusions. It is very easy to trust people who are untrustworthy, it is very easy to think that ‘just this once’ a get rich quick scheme may actually work. Be thoughtful and circumspect.

The Ace of Athames can indicate a new beginning of some sort in your life, possibly on several fronts. Sometimes this new beginning can be started by a separation of some kind – from a relationship, or from a job situation. Know that as anxiety-producing as such a new beginning can sometimes be, that underneath it all is good, beneficial energy that is getting you where you want to go.

Tarot Triumphs: The importance of the relationship between diviner, querent, cards, and the moment of time is also why I don’t offer full dummy readings for the Fool’s Mirror layout. I don’t believe it’s possible to create an authentic reading in a vacuum by laying out the cards as if for a real question or a real person. That undermines the principle of true divination practice, which is never a mechanical affair, but always dependent upon the grace of the moment. I have shown how we can take limited combinations of cards for practice runs, but to my mind it is inappropriate to pretend that a whole divination layout is ‘real.’ This blurs the boundaries and produces an uneasy ‘phantom’ reading. At best, to lay out a full Fool’s Mirror spread for a fake question will produce a flat, weary kind of reading that doesn’t have the spark and truth of a genuine one.

Elements of the Psychic World: Former priory and home of the poet Lord Byron, located in Nottinghamshire, England, that is said to be haunted by several ghosts. The priory was built around 1170 for the Order of St Augustine and was bought in 1540 by Sir John Byron who turned it into a mansion. It remained the Byron family home for three centuries. According to superstition, turning a religious house into a house for secular use is a recipe for misfortune and over the years the Byron family experienced more than its fair share of bad luck and declining fortune.
