The artisan on the card is willing to put in the necessary time and effort. He understands the need to be patient and allow things to mature properly rather than try to rush the process. Traditionally this card refers to an amiable and modest peasant girl who approaches her chores diligently without complaint or pretension, as symbolized by the sign of Virgo associated with the card.

Creative Tarot: During this time, the questions I had for myself had mostly to do with my work, which is writing. (Also the usual number of frantic heartbroken crazy readings, but that is par for the course.) I found the Celtic Cross unhelpful as a way of investigating my problems with the writing process, and I found that when I asked other people for readings, their lack of experience in the area stunted the potential scope of the reading. My tarot card reader is wonderful, but going to her for a writing problem felt a bit like going to a general practitioner for glaucoma treatment. Sometimes you need a specialist.
Tarot Triumphs: You might also like to note your dreams while you are engaged with the Tarot, as they may relate in some way to the work that you’re doing with the cards, or have a different quality to them, perhaps containing striking imagery.9 Just before I started to write this book, for instance, and I was still in the mulling stage, I had a vivid dream about a talking black bird, which hopped onto my finger. I did not attempt to pin the image down too closely, but I was delighted, and I left with the hope that the book might ‘speak’ to readers, or indeed that Tarot might speak to me further while I was engaged in the writing process. If you write down your own dreams and look back at what you’ve written later on, you may see some interesting correspondences with using Tarot cards. But if the dreams become too intense or unsettling in some way, have a break from the cards for a few days. It may be a sign that you are getting too involved in their imagery, or perhaps that the process of acquainting yourself with the cards needs extra time to find its own level in your psyche.
