69-Six of Disks – Upright Thoth Deck

Your Chosen Card – Six of Disks Upright Thoth Deck

When upright, the Six of Disks implies that money and resources are being apportioned in a fair and socially responsible manner. If your financial situation is secure, you may be called upon to assist those who are less fortunate. If you are experiencing a present need, essential resources and financial aid are likely to become available. An essential meaning of this card is that something of value is being passed from one person to another in a spirit of true generosity. In the words of President John F. Kennedy’s 1961 inaugural address, ‘Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country.’ If your question was about the best time to act, this card suggests that now is the opportune moment. Now! The idea that the present is the accepted time may be related to this card’s association with the Moon as it goes through phases, but astrologically it is at its best when it transits the sign Taurus.

Keywords Upright: Generosity, kindness, material success, goodness of heart, sharing resources, receiving assistance, support, being supported, financial aid, benevolence, mentoring, patronage, charity, giving and receiving, philanthropy, accomplishment, prosperity, social responsibility, equitable distribution of wealth, taking care of present needs; now, at present, currently, at this time. (Note that traditionally the Six of Disks refers to now and the Six of Cups refers to the past.)

Timing: 10 Taurus–20 Taurus. Tropical, 1 May–10 May. Sidereal, 4 June–14 June.
Astrology: The emotional and sensitive Moon (exalted) in the second decan of earthy Taurus, realm of the Waite Knight/Thoth Prince of Disks (Air of Earth) and the Hierophant (Taurus). The Moon is linked to the High Priestess.
Number Symbolism: 6 – harmony, communication, sharing, compassion.

Crowley/Thoth: Material success, prosperity in business, transient success, the influence of a child.

Creative Tarot: The tarot reader continued to defy my expectations. She didn’t read the cards by the book. Nor did she sugarcoat anything. She pointed to the Knights—dignified warriors when they are fighting valiantly, but bringers of chaos when they are not directed intelligently—who seemed to be waging war against minor characters. The Tower was there, sure, but it was contained safely in the “Hopes and Fears” position of the Celtic Cross spread, not actually in play. “It’s like you’re drowning in a birdbath,” she told me. “Stand up, it’s just a birdbath.”

Tarot Triumphs: You might also like to note your dreams while you are engaged with the Tarot, as they may relate in some way to the work that you’re doing with the cards, or have a different quality to them, perhaps containing striking imagery.9 Just before I started to write this book, for instance, and I was still in the mulling stage, I had a vivid dream about a talking black bird, which hopped onto my finger. I did not attempt to pin the image down too closely, but I was delighted, and I left with the hope that the book might ‘speak’ to readers, or indeed that Tarot might speak to me further while I was engaged in the writing process. If you write down your own dreams and look back at what you’ve written later on, you may see some interesting correspondences with using Tarot cards. But if the dreams become too intense or unsettling in some way, have a break from the cards for a few days. It may be a sign that you are getting too involved in their imagery, or perhaps that the process of acquainting yourself with the cards needs extra time to find its own level in your psyche.
