The Golden Tarot The Four’s
When things are stable in your life, expect to see some cards with the number four on them in your Tarot reading. This is the number of stability and consistency. There are four suits in the Tarot deck and four seasons on earth. This natural order of things is often disrupted for short bursts, but it is more likely to trend toward constancy than maintain any of the disruptive energy. Revolutions do not occur under the four, but they may be inspired by the long uninterrupted stasis that underscores it. The timeframe starts as a comforting security and consistency, but it can manifest as boredom, stagnation and resistance to change out of a fear of the unknown. For every side of the four that is peaceful and grounded, there is a shadow side of avoidance and outgrown attachments.
The Golden Tarot Suit of Swords
The Suit of Swords is associated with action, change, force, power, oppression, ambition, courage and conflict. Action can be both constructive and/or destructive, sometimes resulting in violence. This suit can also mean hatred, battle, and enemies, and of all the suits, this one is considered to be the most powerful and dangerous. The Suit of Swords deals with the mental level of consciousness that is centred around the mind and the intellect. Swords mirror the quality of mind present in your thoughts, attitudes, and beliefs. Swords themselves are double-edged and in this way the Suit of Swords symbolises the fine balance between intellect and power and how these two elements can be used for good or evil. As such, the Swords must be balanced by spirit (Wands) and feeling (Cups). The negative aspects of the Suit of Swords (i.e. when the Swords cards appear reversed) include anger, guilt, harsh judgement, a lack of compassion and verbal and mental abuse.
Comprised of imagery from the European masters paintings, Golden Tarot cards pay tribute to artwork of the Middle Ages and early Renaissance. The Golden Tarot of Klimt is one of the best for artwork. Golden Tarot aims to reconnect the Tarot aesthetically and esoterically to its origins in early-renaissance Italy. From a time of violence, pestilence and oppression came poignant images of gentle beauty and human frailty.

Here are some snippets from a few of my favorite books
Complete Book of Tarot: When upright, the Four of Swords indicates a time of repose, healing, solitude and recuperation. Note the word PAX (Latin for ‘peace’) in the angels halo on the stained glass window. Perhaps you are recovering from illness or need a break from stressful circumstances. In modern technological parlance, you may want to go off the grid for a while and recharge your batteries. After a period of rest and relaxation, you will be able to begin anew. Traditionally this card represents retreating to a meditative environment, such as a remote hermitage in the desert.
Creative Tarot: Its easy to see why artists in particular connect to the deck. Tarot readers tell storiesstories that might not always have a logical sense but have instead an intuitive meaning. The story is guided by a feeling, or perhaps the mood a color suggests to the reader, or strange coincidences in the pictures. (For instance, on one card, three figures are hunched over their work, so that might be relevant because . . .) That is a creative act. And so artists, used to working in that way, often take to the decks like ducks to water.
Complete Book of Tarot: The Italian artists who painted the first tarot decks added a fifth, or trump, suit to the four standard suits to create a deck for playing a game similar to modern bridge. The early tarot decks varied in the total number of cards contained. As the tarot deck continued to evolve, the total number of cards eventually settled at seventy-eight.
