Your Chosen Card – The Hierophant Upright Golden Deck
When upright, the High Priest is a wise, spiritually oriented guide to whom the querent has recourse. This person may be a kindly teacher, a mentor, or a spiritual adviser, not infrequently connected with a religious or academic setting. One role of the Hierophant is to perform sacred rites that pass traditional wisdom on to the next generation. The High Priest often officiates at ceremonies such as weddings, baptisms, bar mitzvahs, funerals, and the like. Because this priestly figure has authority to unite (‘hook’) couples in matrimony, this card can be a harbinger of marriage. In any case, when the Hierophant appears in a reading, you are likely to be dealing with the traditional values of your family, culture, or religion.

If The Hierophant is unclear it may help to choose a card from the Major Arcana to provide more insight into what it is The Hierophant is trying to tell you. If you had a particular issue in mind, or want to seek clarification on something else, you can also choose again to get more guidance.

Here are some snippets from a few of my favorite books
Complete Book of Tarot: Ruled by the goddess of love Venus, Taurus comes second in the zodiac. Taurus the Bull, a persistent and slow-to-change fixed sign, is associated with the Hierophant (the High Priest or Pope), trump V. The King of Pentacles falls largely under Taurus, a sign whose natives are characterized by these traits:
Complete Book of Tarot: Golden Dawn: Faith, hope, help coming from unexpected sources; when ill-dignified, false hopes, dreaminess.
Complete Book of Tarot: Astrology: Air of Fire. (Note the airy backdrop of blue sky, clouds, and mountain peaks in the distance. In the foreground, the hot dry dessert becomes a setting for the throne capped with the head of a lion. The salamander at the Kings feet is associated in mythology with Fire; the Central European ‘fire salamander’ has fiery golden-yellow markings on its back.)
